I have Faber 10's (indies), Beaver 10's (manifolded) and Faber 12's (indies).
My favourite set was/is my Beaver 10's inverted, apart from not being able to get 2 dives (that's cos I breathe heavy). My 12's I like because I can get 2 dives. I dont like my Faber 10's they are way too short in valve up position.

Do the sac calcs, if you can get enough gas from 10's I would go that way and as Fiona says invert if you need too. I found with the cylinders valve up I needed a tail weight. Inversion has its problems though, mainly to do with longer custom length hoses. Also bear in mind dive centres often charge the same to fill 10's as they do 12's, not sure about 7's.

Matt

i don't think anyone has mentioned trim yet. i've come to the conclusion that my faber 10s are impossible to trim on me, so i would avoid them unless you can try before buying. air consumption is not an issue, i can easily do two club type dives on them. in an ideal world, i'd have two sets of 7s for club diving, but for cost and faff.

Anyone tried twin 18's then? I saw some at the weekend in Aquanaugts - they were massive. Also I tried to lift a pair of 300bar twin 10s.... you are having a laugh right...?

Twin 12's me thinks is the way forward. But what do I know as I haven't got any yet...

Gareth.

Have worn twin 20's once. Part of a rig used to dive the Britannic OC which consisted of:

Twin 20's
Twin steel 12 stages
Single 7 tobleroned on the 20's

Maybe an idea rig for TiggerDiver for his 2nd open water dive?

There's only one bloke in our club who has twin 15's and he is built like the proverbial brick out house. No other bugger will even attempt to lift his kit.
As others have said; try twin 15 indies first.
Jim.

Devil's Advocate here...........

.......having waded through pages of righteous indignation on the "my instructor is teaching me in twin 12's" thread, blobs flying left, right & centre - either I have just skimmed through this thread and missed it - but not one person has asked "how much experience have you?" or "how many dives?" And no-one has mentioned further training either.

Could the people who have responded to both threads just check that their reponses are consitant?

Dianne

PS - I did check the poster's profile & apart from RD, there is no mention of experience.

Good point Diane

-Just under 100 dives evenly mixed between British sea's, muddy quaries and lovely lovely warm waters

Only ever nosied at friend sets, but have now arranged to play in the pool with some friends kits

Very good point. I have little to add to the many points made. You might find , as I do, that as cylinders get bigger my SAC seems to worsen?drag??initial effort.Try twin 7's first in local quarry, stay shallow etc,get trim, weighting and kit set up right. As you gain experience, and it does not take THAT long, think of your build(back length etc),type of diving and need to rescue buddy. The comments about very high SAC in near panic is well made.Don't rush, take time getting it right, once you have fun you may never go back to single plus pony.
