why bother with twin 7s when you can just strap on the big 15l and if you need get a 3l pony.

'Cos, IMHO, twins are more balanced and the routeing through two sets of regs gives you redundancy. For example, your BC and suit inflation work off two different first stages so that if one goes tits up (provided you dive indies or can shut down) you still have a means of buoyancy. Likewise your second stage and octopus for air.

I can't stand up with a 15L tank but can perfectly manage twin 7s, including my very heavy 300 bar set.

A 15L with a pony would be heavier and less balanced than a set of 7's...

Until I got my indie 12's I used my manifolded 10's on every dive, they are/were nicely balanced and so much nicer than a 15/3 combo.

and they looked real hard and techie.

Matt

I only do 15-30m bimbles Roger. I have bought a single tank adaptor for if I want to do shore dives that require a lighter load such as a 10L. However I need to wear 13k with a single tank and only 8.5k with my 232 7s (4.5 with my 300 bar set) so the weight of the twins is offset by the reduction in lead. They are also much more stable on account of the plate and the general balance of them so I find them much easier to walk around in - I probably wont use my single tanks much from now on.

Even with a single 12L I have trouble stepping up and down to get into the water (dodgy knees) but I find moving around in my twin 7s much easier.
