Question Twin 10's or 7's?

I'm thinking about moving on to a twin set. Being a big girls blouse i'm concerned about how heavy it will be and if the advantages really out weigh the disadvantages. (twins vs single)

I currently dive on dump 12's. lots of mates on twin 10's all love them.

Some say go with twin 7's and some say 10's.

What do you think? Any advise?

Jen

7's for club-type diving, 12's for deep and stupid diving or 2 dives off the same set. 10's are a bit in-between- a PITA to lug about and not really big enough to do what you can do with 12's. Like 2 club dives off one set.

Twin 12's are good as long as you don't have to move the bastards. Otherwise forget it and stick to single cyl diving. Much more enjoyable. Twin 7's lovely and a good stepping stone to move up to bigger cyls. My favourite set to dive. Apart from a single 10 when I'm teaching which is a doddle to use.

Probably the most flexible set up is indie 12s. You an single them and twin them. Useful. Still got to carry the buggers though.

Ah- you are a girlie. Just spotted from your post. Well if you don't snuffle like a gas-huffin' ho then 10's are a good set especially if you are not too tall. 12's will kill you. They have a good go at killing me.

No. . . i don't think i do.

Thanks Woz,

Am quite good on air - get really peed off having to swap cylinders between dives tho'.

Am off to Scapa in a few months so thought it might be nice to do 2 dives off one set.

So 10's probably ok for a girlie like me!

Woz, some of us blokes breathe like girls as well. I've only ever dived on 10's. Incredibly flexible. Single for the pool, single + pony for inflatable dives. twin independent for charter boat. Add a stage for deeper dives.
Getting 2 dives off one set (which I do) is not a reason to buy a larger twin set in my opinion - take a third to decant from. Right kit for the right dive and all that.

Tony

If the people you dive with use twin 10s then I would say that these will be probably the right thing for you also

one downside with 7s is that filling between dives is a necessity - with your good air consumption you may be able to do a shorter second dive on the 10s

also - ask a mate to give the set a try

As someone who has just moved from 7's to 10's I would say go with 7's or move to 12's. If you do any boat diving the 10's are too short if you dive them the right way up, however you could always invert and then they would be the right length as the value guard will add the extra height.

Not necessarily so!

I have very good air consumption. When deciding what twins to buy I worked out (using average SACs from a range of recent dives) that I could easily get two of my 15-25m bimbles out of a set of 232 7s and still exit the second dive with between 40-50 bar. I don’t do deep and dark at the moment.

I decided in the end to order a set of 300 bar 7s to give me even more air as an extra precaution. While the 300s were on order another local LDS were selling a second hand set of 232 7s at a really good price, so I bought them as well.

I like diving both sets and over the summer have never failed to get two dives out of either set. I can get about two hours out of 240 bar with average depths of about 15m, and still come back with about 40 bar in my tanks.
