The loop is quite big - perhaps 20cm long - but only the very end protudes so the knot will be wrapped round the barrel of the reel.

Personally I have CD reel with a loop on, but I ended up adding a little clip as

a) It's a lot less faffing
b) It stops the end of the line from going through the lineguide. I probably don't need the loop but I can't be arsed to take it out and it might come in handy if the clip jams (unlikely).

What are the downsides of a small boltsnap? Mine doesn't hand down as it is clipped back up on to the reel body.

Janos, nothing wrong with a bolt snap if you have the loop, but could be a mess about if it decides to give up the ghost and you have no loop as well.

Bungies good, but dont drill a hole like in the pics.

The McMahon has a weak point in the black plastic at the elbow. I have
three busted ones here now (yes I know, parts are on order). This is exactly
where the hole has been drilled.

Personally I use a small split ring on the SMB's loop and a small suicide clip on the end of the reel

I'll just correct that sentence for you:

Personally I used to use a small split ring on the SMB's loop and a small suicide clip on the end of the reel . Now I use a spool with loop for the DSMB, and a reel with loop for laying line

(Ok. I'll stop now as it's becoming repetatatatatatative.)

I cut the strap off the DSMB and just put an eyelet in each end (since the strap was long and pointless).

The line has a small carabiner on the end, just clips on and off (although I usually carry it with both attached and the DSMB bungeed to the reel)

Clip it!

I have the big and small yellow McF reel, and use a small brass piston clip, and a split ring on the BSMB. Very easy to use, low faff etc. Also, the bungee mod works very well with just 1 loop, from the original hole in tha handle, over the DSMB, and then mine goes over the winger handle. The elastic I use is quite stretchy, so holds the bag in place, whatever the handle position. Easy to use, neat to store, and not as likely to break the handle!

Can post pics if required!

oh right was going to take you to task but hadnt realised you said attach dsmb
Sunday used my new kent tooling reel for 1st time with loop as it came!!!!

but with dsmb seperate as usual

managed to attach them to each other without difficulty!! as you described,
but in setting it off managed to wrap the line around the handle and the reel, so my bright shiny reel went up with dsmb!!!!!!!
tonight I have attached a hook to attach to dsmb........in future

oh and prior to going in managed to loose the line out of the guide which is now impossible with the hook on, wouldn't like to thread it with gloves on.... it took 2 of us to do it on land with bare hands!!!
