Thanks for all the replies people. I had some panel wipe in my garage and that soon had it all shiney and new again.

I'll keep all the other ideas in mind when I don't have access to any panel wipe

Panel wipe is fantastic - I use it for everything! Gets almost anything off anything else but has never damaged whatever i've been trying to clean like thinners etc can do.

Everyone should have a little bottle in their toolbox! :o)
