Which dive mobile (again)

Not sure if this is in the right section or not:

Any of you guys have any experience of the following pickups, with hard tops

New Mitshi L200
New Toyota Hilux
Navara

Any advice would be great, not intending on actually using it off road, just for lugging gear around.

I have the new Toyota Hilux with the hard top - Mal Bridgeman has it in a different configuration.

Toyota Hilux - 35 to the gallon which is considerably more that the landrover - room for three divers and full technical kit without getting the cab wet and smelly - or five people and full luggage.

Better looking than the Mitsubishi, cheaper than the Nissan.

I brought the Mit L200 in July last year (2006). It was a choice between this one or the Hilux. I've found the Mit to be better value and the cab more comfortable, although I don't think you can go wrong with the Hilux.
I've carried over 800kg and there is the strength allright in the engine to cope. It's a great car and can highly reccomend it. I just dump the kit at the back and te the cylinders down to stop rolling.

Cheers guys, im not a big fan of the nissan, so its really down to the L200 or the Hilux.

From what I have seen/read, the interior of the hilux is a little better (all leather ??), and the ride quality of the L200 is a little more 'car-like'

Mine isn't leather, I suppose it cold be on option but you have to check with the dealer. As for the engne power the Hilux is less than the L200 but can be 'chipped' or upgraded. My L200 uses 8 l / 100km which is darn good. It is more 'car' like in the interior but not easy on the curves - that is with the real pubic hair roads we get in the mountains here. The L200 four door version has the option of the back window opening, though if you have a hard top it won't be much use!

I've found the Navarra to be too plasticky in the interior and drinks like a fish. Try to get a test drive to compare.

There is always the Ford Ranger as well. I have had mine for a few years now and it has been great. Hard top also availiable.

I've just bought the Pathfinder which is the seated version of the Navara averaging 30mpg 38 on a long motorway run at 70ish (read 80). I originally went for the navara but after test driving the pathfinder because they didn't have manual navara in i loved it. There where a few thinks that swayed me like reverse parking camera, xenon lights and auto 4x4 etc that the navara didn't have, also 2 separate keys to lock the hard top and tailgate on the navara i use it like a van most of the time for work so in and out of the boot all day. Love the satnav and bluetooth phone built in. Had 3 divers and all kit in it on saturday no problem at all by the time i'd bought a navara and hardtop worked out similar prices. Drives pretty well even on country lanes and if need be all seats fold completely flat

Edit 18000 mile service intervals too on navara and pathfinder
