Ok - I carry a 7l steel 232 bar cylinder as backup (at present, although I am just about to purchase a 3l pony). My current BCD (Seaquest Pro QD) supplies approx 35lbs (16kgs) in lift. I have calculated that the cylinder creates approx 1.5kg negative buoyancy (salt water) when full and 0.3kg positive buoyancy (salt water) when empty. How should I calculate the amount of lead to shred? I assume I should calculate it assuming the cylinder is empty and cope with the added weight at the start of the dive? I.e. if I usually use 12kg of lead in salt water, should I shed, say, 2kg?

Regards
