Imported post A press stud? What a horrible idea! Bit of sewing should sort it all out. One bit of advice about that: Don't use normal thread. Nip into your local fishing shop and buy some fishing line. Monofilament is very strong, and doesn't get degraded by water. I went for a 3 pound line, you can get tougher, but that might be too thick for the needle. 3 pound per stitch is plenty strong enough for most diving needs. You may want to get hold of some leather needles too, depending on how heavy-duty the webbing is. No-one ever told me when I took up diving that I'd start having to spend time in fabric shops...

Imported post Matt, Glad you responded. We did the BSAC here and Open Water dives at Caperwray - if you know it. Our instructor was real fussy but was happy with Josh going to 20m. He said to us that the BSAC Ocean Diver 'qualified and trained' us to 20m. Beyond that meant we weren't "trained". I asked someone about this who said 'he would say that - he has to cover his back!' The Dive Centre in Tenerife were more cautious than the BS-AC Instructor, to the point of putting an extra dive leader with Josh and I as we were novices and sending another dive leader with the experienced divers. It was almost like having extra, free tuition - great!. It appears that once they were happy with us they then gave us more slack. I don't know what the answer is, as I'm pretty careful too. We have dived together since in UK but not in the sea and gone down to 18m and both felt comfortable but we rigidly stuck with Dive Plans and SEEDS etc. As for the Depth v age argument -I'm told he's okay as long as IT'S NOT DAY IN DAY OUT. I'm will now check with our quack - good to hear another view and opinion. Simon.

Imported post Simon no worries mate (picked that up in Oz and cant drop it), I felt that Adam (my boy) would be OK for the occasional dip below 18/20 as he is a big lad and hopefully finished growing (he's not getting a dry-suit till he does) but he's put a bit of height on this last summer break again. Having said that it is very rare that we do 'deep' dives, cant see a #### thing anyway in Stoney. Its all probably super cautious anyway and another one of those if you do this 6 million times there's a 1 in 5 billion chance etc. And I'm glad you cleared up the misunderstanding about the dive guide thing as well, cheers. Dive safe Matt (Edited by MATTBIN at 1:33 pm on Sep. 5, 2002)

Imported post I use a Scubapro Sausage with a Scubapro reel with 80 mtrs of line on it, practiced deploying it in the local 10mtr dive tank, only used it once in the sea at St Abbs with the YD's, as mentioned earlier be carefull not to over inflate the thing! its got a mind of its own when its over inflated!!! as Jay has mentioned if in doubt, just let go of it before it drags you to the surface! practice makes perfect!
