Where is the best place to get a V weight from - do they come in preset sizes or do they `make to measure`. I am after a 4kg one that will fit inbetween my twins. Also can you get add ons (for example to compensate for seawater buoyancy) or should I just get a worst case weight (6kg in seawater)

V-wieghts are a doddle to make if you've got a garage full of rubbish and nothing better to do with your time, like me. Get aluminium (easier to file) angle and a couple of flat bits, self tappers, old lead and ponce a blowlamp off your mate the plumber. measure between your bands (270mm). cut the angle, file the ends flat so there is no gap between that and the flat bit you're about to screw onto the ends. Put it up on a couple of bricks so you can heat the mould as well, put old lead into the mould while burning it (the lead) ,remembering to scrape the slag off the top of the molten lead. Molten lead splashes like water but doesn't cool as quick, so be careful and don't replace the plumbers gas either because he can definately afford it.  Hope this helps.

The price of gas nowhere near compares to the price of a plumber.

<font color='#FF00FF'>Hi John, If you cant be arsed making one, or dont have the skills, (both counts if your me!)

Divers warehouse sell them for about £20. Only pace that I know of. They do 8, 10 and 12lbs. Its the big metal thing that attaches easily between the two rear bolts on your twins. Should fit easily or you will have to move the cam bands a bit. other way is to hit the fucker dead hard with a mallet until it fits, (the gav yates scottish method).

if diving in sea water or with extra thermals on all i do is chuck a couple of 1 kgs in dry suit pockets. I think gav attaches a kg or so to the bottom of his to help with trim. Least you wont need a weight belt.

<font color='#000080'>Hey Kirky looks like we are playing the same game

Just got my combro backplate, manifold and stealing the wifes 10l to twin with mine (Well the test dates are the same so it makes sense   )

Check out the following link for DIY P and V weights :-

http://www.oneandoneis2.demon.co.uk/DiveWeb/lead.htm

(Gee the second time I have pointed to Dom's site   )

Guy's any rough gestimates on amount of weight needed with the twins (Thinking of a single P weight).  Currently I use 8kg with a 13.2k 12l and 4kg Pony,  I am neutral with the 12l almost empty and the pony on 50bar (Any less air and I want to be on the surface anyway   )

The 10's are 12.6kg dry weight, 2.5kg backplate.

Daz,  (Also if it makes any difference,  I am a 6ft 4&quot; tanned adonis without an inch of spare fat)

OK I lied,  This would work out as one cheap twin set if I could get away without buying the wife a new 10l

<font color='#000080'>I would drop 2-3 kg with the twins. The buoyancy characteristics between a ten and a twelve are fairly small, so negative weight of a steel 10 will be about 2-3 kg, depending on the make of tank.

And to think you passed up that cheap 10 I had. Could have been a beautiful way of me satisfying your wife. &nbsp; &nbsp;I'm sorry, I couldn't help it!

I'll be adding a page about my new modular V-weight system sometime soon. Stay tuned!
