i've sent you a photo of the finished guard i think you'll find its just what your looking for, developed just for  inverted twinset's not a narrow width shop bought sustitute but built in the northern style of a brick sh-te house.
ya set will stand up unaided which makes getting the thing on ya back a lot easier.

Just got the photo - beautiful!  Just the job!  I'll PM as well.

Holding it steady while I put the gear on is important - can't believe the shop one's are so narrow.

thought it might hit the spot mdemon!
i suggest that you buy some stainless twin bands,mde seem to make some of the best ones i've seen.
if you do decide to go with the buddy bands then measure the distance between both tank centres when secured to the stab and i'll make it up for ya.
it will not be adjustable ,i can't think of a simple way of doing it and keeping it strong.
so there you go its make your mind up time bands or blocks the choice is yours
