fin spring strap choices +fit?

hello, its my first post here, although i've browsed the forum before.
finding out good info on kit, before buying. thanks for passing on all your knowledge.

i'm looking at getting spring straps for my mares quattros.
i see the two major choices are, beaver or northern diver.

i see the nd can fit the mares directly,
but has a thin? metal buckle that concerns me, as to whether it would damage the plastic mushroom mount.
the beaver appears to not come with a compatable fixing method.
i have seen s/steel 6mm? bow shackles used as the spring fixing method on the web.
so i guess that would over come the issues of both.
does anyone have any opinion of which spring strap they prefer?

many thanks.

Smile Good morning

And welcome infernalzen

I got the Beaver ones and my only complaint is that loop at the back is a bit too small to get your fingers in if your wearing thick gloves.

Having just fitted some to Nic's quattros and having a selection of springs from Beaver and ND I hope I can help!

For me the ND springstraps are superior. They have a thicker spring and have caveline running through them to prevent over stretching. The rubber spring cover forms better around the spring too in my opinion.

Don't worry about damaging the mushroom mount with the steel fitting. There's no way you are about to saw through it with the fitting. To install them (and probably most other types of fitting too) you are going to have to snip off the little 'stop' around the mushroom fitting so that the fitting can swivel freely. You will see what I mean when you have the old fitting off. This takes only a few seconds with some smallish snips or a file.

Hope that helps.

Graham

For the price I dont think you can complain about the beaver ones, I'm pretty sure that the same snipping of the mushroom will attatch the beaver springs. When it came time to fit mine I had to trim a little off to fit them

Northern Diver - Fins There you go Helen

The Beaver ones are quite similar but if I were to buy springs of this type in the future I would deffo go with the Northern Diver ones.

Cheers

Ahem. As an ex-expert on these finstraps I can wholeheartedly recomment the ND ones over the Beaver ones.

The Beaver ones still retain one of the common "break" points- the plastic buckle. And I have seen these break. Twice. So go for the ND ones.

I use the beaver ones, but as Woz said the buckles do give. I have cable-tied mine and they're bullet proof now.
