Actually a point worth mentioning about the weight of the KT reel: When on a stop I don't hang off the reel, rather just loosely hold the line so that I don't get pulled up and down if there's a bit of chop on the surface. Due to the weight of the reel it makes the dSMB stand up (and hence be more visible) whereas with the lighter reels I've noticed that the SMBs tend to flop over.

I use the bungee that I use to hold the SMB onto the reel to hold onto. Takes up the action of the waves an keeps you at a fixed depth rather than saw toothing on deco.

Mty method is similar. I let the reel hang (the MGE is heavy enough to do that!) the lay my hand flat over the top of the reel with the string going up between my fingers. The wave action makes the reel bounce, but as i am not holding the reel, i can stay quite still and horizontal.
