| This may sound crazy but i member of our club, uses lead flashing. He cuts them to shape, like a shoe insole and fits em into the feet of his dry suit! He reasons are 1) you cant lose em as they are on the inside of your suit 2)you can adjust the weight if you feet feel too heavy/light and 3)they act as barriers against anything sharp sticking into your foot!!!!! Aparantly he stood on a nail some years ago and the lead prevented it piercing his foot. Sounds crazy i know but he swears by em |

| [quote=Dominic;65072]Ankle weights are prone to falling off without you noticing. Fins aren't. quote] In all my years diving, and the amount of drysuit divers Ive dived with, no one had lost ankle weights, I use the clip/release kind and I use them with my neoprene drysuit, as for novices using them and then afterwards dumping them, thats a very broad opinion, they are benefical in that weight isnt on the foot (like with heavy fins) and when secured correctly stop air (you dont need much in a suit, just enought to equalize, I use the wing for lift if I need it) going to your feet. Best thing is for a dive to try them on, and practice their trim and bouyancy skills in the water and see if they help or hinder.

| 2p. it must be harder work finning with bits of lead attached to your feet. i reckon the old ankle weights have more pychological effect than to help bouyancy. i might be wrong tho.
