I thought the only thing that divers with boats didn't do, was fast cars. Normally the tractor variant was taken.

Well thanks for all the info, I certainly have a lot to consider.
I've been into the boat scene from a little boy. my dad always had boats and we had lots of boating holidays,so I'm not a total novice, I have lots of experience. I've always wanted a boat of my own so it's not just about the diving but I thought I might kill two birds with one stone. Ideally I would like a dedicated speed boat but I think a RIB might be more practical and cheeper.

I haven't decided on a budget but I have a bit of spare cash and was probably thinking of around 10-15k and been a compitent vehicle technician I will service and maintain it myself.

I have no intentions of using this as a business, it's purely for pleasure.

Thanks for the input

Chris

No hope for you then my friend

I had been looking at a RIB as a possible purchase when we get back to the UK in September. By the end of the bottle of red and a couple of hours on the net I had moved onto a 6.5m hardboat as a much better option, then you can sleep on it overnight and make a weekend of it...
6 grand to 26 grand in less than half a bottle of nice Cabernet Sauvignon...

Ah, but is it as fast!? and can it be towed towed to different locations as easy, I thought about a big boat, >28ft maybe but thats for later in life I think when it can be moored in a marina and enjoy a nice Cabernet Carlsberg...

Fast yes. Towed no. But nice weekends at the coast watching the rain running down the cabin window.....

Looking at the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 655/695 at the minute. Inboard diesel is slightly cheaper than outboard petrol as it uses red diesel. (OK OK I'm trying to convince myself )

I'm sure the SW would be a better place to keep such a boat than Brighton
