I had this thread in mind when I was diving Chesil with Adam_F and Mrs_F last night and my mask was fine underwater until I smiled...then the water came in. Maybe the solution is to be a grumpy git underwater...
I had a moment last night whilst diving the Glen Strathallan. I was happily snapping away at a little Tompot Blenny in a hole in the boiler, when a huuuuge conger stuck its snout through the hole right beside me! I was so excited that, as I tried to attract Turbs' attention, I was racing through my air, grinning so my mask was full of water and trying to take photos, all at the same time.

What a great dive

Very true.

but if you don't equalise the mask properly (lets face it - it doesn't hurt in the pool) - then you can keep the mask on your face in the pool without the strap.

Very handy when demonstrating the mask off skill to students in the pool (that is purely to point out that there should be no panic when taking off the mask and reapplying it - (and not to encourage students to do the same..) ) Get physics to work for you..
