You DO equalize the mask pressure on the way down, don't you? Maybe the 'water' is actually tears being sucked out of you into the mask?

Seriously, have you tried using slightly diff internal mask pressure to see if it affects the rate of leakage?

Maybe you could paint a multicoloured ring round your face which fits just inside the "footprint" of your mask and then the colour of the water in your mask should tell you where your mask is leaking?

Have you got any facial piercings?

Yes, I do equalise the mask pressure, and I'm not sure I've got that much liquid to be sucked out.

I've tried four or five different masks now, and they all seem to start the dive ok but leak as soon as I either look up or around.

I don't have any facial piercings. Or a moustache. Yet.
