I thought a drop line was just to save space, I take an open ended DSMB and drop line just to surface under so the zodics have some thing to aim at :-)

if I took that load of webbing I might as well take a spool, if im taking a spool I might as well take a real DSMB . it would be about the same size as that tangle waiting to happen.

my drop line is cave line if it tangles I put it in the bin and cut off another 50 pence worth of the reel in my dive bag.

zodiacs jetskies and wind surfers all just more things trying to kill us :-)

You actually.

Anyway, I don't give a ratsarse what you lot think, I like it and I like the little almond eyed beauty in the ad too, I think she's dead cute and I want to protect her and put her on a pedestal and keep her safe & warm..... I think she's a girl anyway....actually I don't mind provided she puts out.

I alone in the whole of Tasmania voted Lib/Nats for the first 7 years after I got here, so I'm used to being the square peg in the round hole.

This really looks like an accident waiting to happen- why overcomplicate things when a spool would be so much easier.

Of course you could attached it to a buddy crack bottle, secure the lanyard as shown in the video and guarantee to be the first back in the boat.

I can see something like this being useful in clear blue water diving as is the practice in the Red Sea for example, where the bag is deployed at 6m, in an attempt to avoid being run over by zodiacs .... and that's about it, I think.

In June, as we were returning to the boat, we watched with a mixture of amazement and horror a pair of divers from another boat holding their stop nicely at 6m start to deploy their bag ....which they had on a 6m line.

As they started to uncoil the line they stated to sink a little....by the time they had uncoiled all the line they had sunk quite a lot and were now vertical in the water, finning quite hard. They then filled the dSMB ...... and, holding on for dear life, got a rather rapid "lift" back to 6m ....

Point being whatever you use, do try to be a bit proficient at it.

Mal

I have to say my response while watching the demonstration was " I don't like that" Obvious reasons as mentioned above and I'd still be carrying at least 2 reels anyway (ok maybe only one in clear blue, warm, calm seas) I'm sure I'd feel most insecure without my reels

I feel Mal summed up it's use here

Also...
I'm sure there are a fair few divers who pop to places like the Red Sea maybe once a year who might be taken aback with a new rule requiring be able to launch a dSMB. This might be a quick, easy (and cheap) way of bringing them up to speed so they can go on to enjoy the holiday.

While it maybe a handy 'starter' for training and shallow dives it would only be necessary to learn how to use line properly anyway so might as well start as you mean to go on. I agree with Mal's further comment

Reckon I pretty much agree with all Garf's remarks too

I noticed that aswell I'm sure it was camera perspective but it made me think the bag must be pretty small. Like that Frog one, bit deceptive, looks pretty normal but belongs in a doll's house
