My northern hemisphere compass worked OK in the Falkland's for four months
and i did a fair bit of "bimbling" about

My English compass worked OK in Tassie too, until I trod on it. I use a Silva compass anyway - works just as well as the unnerwater ones, as long as it's oil filled.

Still, I guess with 25M vis, it isn't all that critical.

Just thinking about it, I wonder if our (Aus) troops posted to Afghanistan get new compasses issued? Although I'm guessing they live or die by GPS these days anyway.
