Weighting with KT Reel

I have just started using a DSMBi with a Kent Tool ratchet reel. I love both and think they are fantastic. Have just done a few practice dives with them in Capernwray and Stoney so far. But when diving with a 15 on yesterday I felt very heavy going down at the start of the dive and didnt feel quite right in my weighting until I had sent up the blob.

My question is should I drop some lead to compensate for the increased weight of the new reel? I had thought not as at the end of the dive when I am at my most buoyant I would be deploying the blob so the reel would no longer be acting as weight making me floaty, given the last dive though I am not so sure

No; you should never drop any weight to counter the effect of any equipment you carry that can be ditched (deliberately or accidentally)

I would be wary of using anything that may become lost or detached to compensate for my weighting. I'd put up with it. The KT ratchet reel is a loverlee piece of kit though - reassuringly solid and heavy

Thanks all

Was wary of dropping lead for equipment that wouldnt always be attatched to me. Guess I just wanted the YD approval stamp (we should order one of those by the way)
