Do a search on here for a company called Conrad International. They do an analyser for about £89 IIRC

As said above there is one on the boat, just set your kit up as soon as you get on it. I've always done mine before the boat leave's and never had a problem.

Analox 2E, should be about £155. Mark Powell and Mr Niknaks sell them IIRC. IIRC Woz had a link to a electronic supplier with a small unit too.

Most boats doing Nitrox will be using a membrane compressor not partial pressure filling so a lot of people don't bother analysing their gas - it will only ever be 32%.

If you are on a tec boat that has helium and rich O2 mixes and supports CCR then I'd def take my own.

If you dive nitrox in the UK then you should probably invest in your unit.

For sure... there is little more irritating than a nitrox diver bumming use of the analyser you bought because they can't be bothered to (not counting borrowing it because they forgot it - you might forget one day!).

I prefer not to rely on "what it should be" and always think it best to check.

I agree. Also, if you are doing a slightly deeper dive they will sometimes top off the remains of your 32% from the previous dive with air to get a 26 to 28% ish mix which definitely needs checking. Having said that we had an analyser on the boat and I found there was plenty of time to analyse my gas and set my regs up between eating and snoozing pre dive-brief to avoid the rush.

We were going to dive the Arch... 60m+

When we checked the cylinders before the dive some of us had 32% inspite of asking for 21%!

Good thing we checked!

Personally I'd be inclined to take my own - at least you know that the sensor hasn't had a thrashing! I've seen far too many Egyptian boat crew who think it's a 'cool trick' to blow smoke from their cigarettes into the analyzer to see what it does. Plus, as others have stated, it'll mean that you won't have to wait for the boat's own analyzer to do the rounds first...

If you do intend getting one, I'd highly recommend the Analox O2EII - a very rugged and compact unit available at a good price.

Thinking like that will get you killed, Rob. Never *assume* anything - even with a membrane system. Don't forget that most membrane systems can be manually adjusted to produce any mix upto 40% - they don't *just* do 32%! First rule of breathing any gas - always analyze it first! You of all people will have had that drilled into you a million times before...
