I'm sure there was an article somewhere on the interweb where we melted a load down in the kitchen a while back to make P weights.

It's not difficult to do, and does have its risks, but take it slowly and carefully and you're away.

Obviously we do this fairly regularly, mind you I'm a bit out of practice in recent years

Making a V weight

After reading this thread and using the link found by endoman, I decided to have a go and make my own V weight.

I had a large burner and metal pot with ladle's from the time when we used to sweat cables together (we now use nut and bolt fitings)

I got hold of some old weights melted them down and after forming a bit of tin plate to the curves of the cylinders poured in the lead. I had a couple attempts at getting it right as the tin got a bit soft when warm and kept deforming.

I think in the end it came out rather well I've put it on the kitchen scales and all I know is that it weighes more than 2kg (thats the max on the scales).
