Has anyone got a 4lb weight mould I could borrow?

We've got one in the club but if you've ever melted lead you'll know you really need 2- one to pour while the other's cooling.

We've got loads of old lead (piping, roof flashing and some cladding from a nuclear power station) and we're going to have an exciting Saturday when it warms up a bit getting all manly and melty.

Can anyone help?

Get a small pack of self leveling compound.

Cover lead weights in a film of grease

Lay in a mettle tray and pore self leveling compound around them

Allow to cure.

Remove lead blocks

Instant mold.

This might just conceivably work if I knew what a mettle tray was. Is it some sort of building thingy?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

A metal tray. Am with you now. Good idea.

No! Cover yours in yoghurt and leave it outside and keep it damp.

Bloody cheek. Borrow my mould indeed!

I like the idea, but will it be a one use mold? Will it break up when trying to remove the castings?

Woz - you going to be in the SW any time soon? I have a 6lb mold.

Just make sure that the mould is 100% dry before pouring molten lead in, superheated steam and hot lead can really wreck your day.
