No, just as long as your eyes, the shaft of the spear and the target are in line, it won't make any difference. Your biggest problem is that you'll have to aim high, just like when engaging a long-range target with a rifle.

I know of someone that (allegedly) uses an old-fashioned snorkel for that purpose

Have you thought about a Hawaiian sling? They are very easy to make and use and pretty safe too as their range is fairly limited.

I use a wire coat hanger, folded up it fits in my pocket but if I need to tickle a lobby out it straightens out nicely and with the hook on the end I can tickle the lobby out easily.

I use one of the goody bags that is like a string bag, at points up the bag I've threaded another bit of string through (like the drawstring at the top), thus it simply becomes a case of drop the crab/lobby in, tighten the lowermost drawstring and put a simple knot in it. Bag is then ready for the next one.

cheers,
Paul

Thats a good idea i use clamps at the moment, but i am trying to get the bag set up so that it doesnt drag in the ground when full of crabs etc

would you take a lobby in berry or leave it as i have always left them but a fish monger said he would like the berry for the shop or himself

I have heard this and can confirm that a bottle of evian added to lobster in a bucket (i thought they would like some water) will kill them

Althought to be fair the lobsters in question had been stuck in pot jammed inside a wreck for a few weeks without food so they were prob on the way out anyhow.
