No problem Neil, I'll drop Ian a PM as well then

OK, looks like the subs-bench might be cleared on this one. If anyone else is interested, then let me know since there's always the chance that we might get another drop-out or one of the existing subs might not be interested!!!

Cheers,
Simon

ok, just a quick bit of info for anyone who's interested - was down in Porthkerris last weekend running a nitrox course.

Did shore dives on the Friday round the reef on the beach (Drawna?), water temps were about 18-19 degrees even at 15m, vis was about 5-8m. A fair bit of life was around, wrasse, pollock etc and a nice dive.

Saturday got blown out, so we spent the day at the Seal Sanctuary in Gweek - hopefully we won't have weather problems again, but if so it's quite an interesting way of spending a morning for anyone who ends up down that way looking to kill a couple of hours.

Sunday was too rough for the Cat, but we got out on the Rib - did the Volnay in the morning. Again about 18 degrees at the bottom, vis was a bit murky at about 5m but had a good dive. In the afternoon, we did Raglan Reef - conditions much the same as the morning, which was a bit disappointing after the good vis we've had all year, but not surprising given how rough it had been on Saturday - fingers crossed it will have settled out by the time we get there.

Other general info - they've got there Haskel up and working after some problems so there was no problem with nitrox, including 300 bar fills. As regards the Cat, I had a word with Mike the skipper and they're hoping to get a kitting up bench in place soon (possibly by the time we're down but not guaranteed) - from his description this won't be used for storing the kit on the way to the divesite but will be kept clear ready for kitting up. Finally they're hoping to get a lift fitted over the winter - not much use for us now, but a useful bit of info for anyone thinking of looking at Porthkerris for next year.

I can second what Simon says. Drawna rock is a lovely site for some very nice shore dives if you're down in that area. We were there on the Bank Holiday weekend and had some very nice bimbles round the rock. We had about 5-6m viz and water temp for us was 16-17deg. Lots of life and a lovely little John Dory on 3 dives, in the same spot each time.
There were reports of a seal too, but we missed that.

According to Porthkerris, the seal(s) might be new residents - they've been there for about 6 weeks, not always around the reef but definitely in the area and they've been seen on the beach first thing in the morning a couple of times.
