<font color='#F52887'>Add another name to the list. Lot better facilities than stoney (and only 20 minutes from my house!), but the viz is certainly worse. I might be doing my TDI advanced nitrox and deco procedures there on the Bank hol the week before, so it would make a good practice after the course.

Bren
this is from ViaMichelin.co.uk, which I have found to be fairly accurate, given that I dont hang about.

Adam and I are probables for a Portland day-trip.
Its a Spring that weekend so am I correct in saying only one dive that day, unless we do a shallow shore as well.

Matt

Hi Guys and Gals,

I recently placed a request for info on Marsa Alam on Divernet and had some excellent and detailed 1st hand responses.

http://www.diverforum.co.uk/talkfor....68.html

As you can see from the above URL, one such response was from Bristol-based Steve Lovell, and we then got to talking and then he made this blanket and warmly received and much appreciated invitation to us YD'ers to wander down 'Chez Suvvern' and get in amongst it - Daz, looks like we'll be invading your manor! 'Bring on Da Massif!!' and don't you dare skimp on the bacon butties!!

http://www.nationaldivingcentre.com/

OK, let's be having your names in the hat:

1 * Bren Tierney
2 * Andy2Tanx
3 * Daz x 6 (the 'Bristol Massif')
4 * Steve Lovell
5 * Tim Ingmire
6 * John Duncan
7 * Richie (NDC)
8 * Matt Binnie (Portland/Hood)
9 * Adam Binnie (Portland/Hood)
10 * ............??

Total = 9 (not including 'Da Massif')

Well in 2Tanx for coming up with a date - 30th August 2003.

Actually - what about NDC one day and the HMS Hood (block-ship over Portland Harbour) the next?? The world is our veritable oyster troops!

Well in John Duncan for getting in amongst it as soon as you joined! We like that.

Welcome aboard Richie.

Matt, cheers for the link. Not having dived either Portland (to my eternal shame ) or the Hood, I can't comment on how the Spring tide might affect her? She's a block ship over the harbour entrance and I've heard rave reviews form just about everyone who's dived her. Anyone who's a regular on the Hood/Portland care to comment on how the tides might affect our chances of a one or two-tank dive that day?

Daz, any update on how many of the 'Da Massif' are coming? And, you being 'darn sarf', what's the travel time from your gaff to do the 'HMS Hood' for the second day?? Actually Daz might be in the Red Sea as we speak, so can anyone else tell me how far/travel time from the environs of the NDC to Hood??

Come on in - the water's loverly

As a rough guess-timate I would say Bristol to the Hood would be about 2 hours? &nbsp; Its about 3 hours from Oxford.....
Maybe add another 1/2-1hr on to that to do the Chepstow to Bristol, Severn Bridge thingy. &nbsp; And more again if it's a Bank Holiday!

Thanks Lou,

So we might have to leave the Bristol/NDC manor at O-dark-30 on the Sunday morning, or travel down on the Saturday night and get digs for the night. Makes me think though: just how long can 2Tanx and I spin out a game of 'I Spy with my Little Eye....?' in the Landie on the drive back from Portland &nbsp;

<font color='#008080'>Can't join you that weekend unfortunately as I'm in Scotland that week, however: Re diving the Hood.. &nbsp;recommended time: Best dived 3 hours before HW to 1 hour after HW. I have dived her at various stages of tide, just depends how much of a drift you fancy when you come off the wreck ;-)). There is a write up on divernet: http://www.divernet.com/wrecks/wtour7999.htm

Most hardboats cannot cross the wreck from one side to the other, so some skipper prefer you drifting into the harbour, other out, depending on where they approach from - so check with the skipper of your choice. There are a number of shuttle boat that do the Hood regularely, but they do get booked up quickly at weekends. Check Old Harbour Dive School in Weymouth or Budgy's in Portland (Weymouth Scuba Centre).

Have fun

A
