Question is - do you have the balls for St. Mary's Loch? Freshwater loch on peat! From about 4m down it is essentially a night dive due to zero light getting past the "pink" water (bacteria). Perfect bouyancy control needed as often there are no visible points of reference and if you touch the bottom you will a) lose your torch beam to about 0.5m b) sink into the bottom!!!![/quote]

Whats the point in diving there then??

Freshwater - not much of that around Scotland (except Loch Lomond and a few others)
Dark - good for training night dives during the day
Crappy bottom - great for learning bouyancy control!

yes frankly we of the Skelton Coast have cojones like melons and enjoy diving in what is basically diluted sh*te. Dave's plan is to dive in the shipping channel in the Tees estuary - lose your buoyancy control and you end up wrapped around the propshaft of a Taiwanese flagged coaster. Could be nasty. :cut: Incidentally Dave I was scouting around on the DiverNet website for information on the U-boat off Roker - that could be an interesting gig if we could avoid getting arrested for diving in the fairway...
Drift it's clear that you're familiar with that old army institution the NEWD - night exercise without darkness! :shades:

Yup, ScotSAC basic training involves a simulated (pool) dive with a mask coated in loads of black paint.... It's a great test of bouyancy control when your only reference is the guy leading you by one arm.... Yikes!
