| YD gig from Poole. Another Sub trip??? UPDATED 16TH FEB Hi all, I've been thinking about this one for a while so I thought I would see if there is any YD interest in diving the wreck of HMS Safari. Here's what Dive Dorset says about it. Those who have dived this big fat 750 ton S class submarine say that she makes a splendid dive with lots of interesting things to see and that it is the best submarine dive in the Dorset area (Think M2 & M3 folks!!) She lies in line with the tide on a hard seabed of boulders, rocks and gravel with her bows facing south east. She is upright but leaning 40 degrees to port. The sea bed is 42M and the maindeckat 38M The conning tower has been removed allowing access to her interior, but such an excursion would be exceptionally hazardous because of the narrow entrance and a huge number of conger eels.. The wreck sank whilst being towed to the breakers yard after completion of her actice service. She had been one of the RN's most succesful WW2 Submarines. Obviously a wreck at this depth requires one to be willing to do a moderate amount od deco, but we could still make it a two dive day if we fancied a shallow drift after say a 3 or 4 hour surface interval, maybe even a trip into swanage for gas. If people wanted to do 2 days of diving I would suggest the second day could be a dive on HMS Sargasso. This wreck is recently rediscovered (by my branch) and is a reasonably intact WW2 wreck. She's fairly small, but lying at 44M you get a decent length dive on her allowing you to see most of her without wracking up silly amounts of deco. The numbers for this wreck are only known by a very few skippers in the area. There is still lots of splidge on the wreck with plates, wine and beer bottle, brass, ships clock etc all having been brought up last year. The phosphur bronze prop is still in place giving you an idea of how infrequently she is dived. I would suggest we dive off Dave Saywells new boat which offers a great diving platform http://www.jadiving.co.uk/theboat.html I've been chatting to Dave about the Safari and this e-mail was received today. Alan, the safari is still a super dive and if timed on a neap tide vis is super max depth 44m at bows only, general 42m maindeck 38m she is all there apart from conning tower you can look into the forward part easily i could rant on forever really but suffice to say late apr , may, june would be good. So, interest or no interest??? If interest is there I'm suggesting a neap late may or early June to let the bloom pass. I could be talked into late April though.

| I would love to do this, but it's a bit deep for me on CCR at the moment. But if you're thinking of going around September time... Janos
