| yes, true, the tides have to be right ....On the day If you tell the skipper you want to dive certain wrecks at the beginning of your trip ...then you are almost certain to have the appropriate tide (weather is another matter) sometime during your week. If you ask on the wednesday then the tide may have been right on the tuesday . also the James Barrie is 2.5 hrs away from port so you then have the issue of doing just one dive ...or a second dive very late if the tides are at midday. I can assure you that without local knowledge you will make no sense of the local tide tables for Scapa as the Barrie is in a tidal stream that stops and restarts several times during a single tide and usually makes a mockery of carefully laid plans. Some of the boats here (stormdrift included ) have a 100% record for the tides and it would be wise to talk to the skippers of these boats rather than try to recieve devine intervention from the tide book. Tide tables can be purchased from Orkney Islands Council, Department of Harbours, Harbour Authority Building, Scapa, Orkney Tel: 01856 873636 Fax: 01856 873012 or you could try the web. cheers Hazel
