Imported post Looking forward to seeing you all there on Saturday. Scoff, are you bringing your helmet with lights strapped to it, I am very interested to see what they're like in water. Cheers, Malcolm.

Imported post I'm staying in Wrexham now (don't ask!) but will still try to be there by about 10am ish on Saturday. I'm in a little silver Seat Leon. If anybody wants to call try 07778 528205. I may be away from my PC now until next week, but will try to check Friday. Bob

Malcolm - what was it you said about re-reading your posts (on 7th November)? Well, my helmet will be available for you to inspect - and look aghast at the scars and scrapes on it. And the lights on it are a bit like 'the hairs on her dickie-dido' - and one with a fairy light on, to show them the way... See you Saturday Cheers Scoff (CDG - Northern Section QD)

Imported post Capernwray, Saturday. Well I was there....where was everybody else? I got there mid-morning and bumped into Andy Kerslake, had a cup of tea and chatted with Andrew G and Mike Kane who are over here doing the DIRF and Rec Triox classes. They were running DIR demo's in the classroom. I couldn't belive that only 3 people turned up for the demo! Anyway, Andrew talked about the origin of DIR and what it is really all about. He has some great stories and useful anecdotes. After the demo had finished I ran down to the carpark (I was late!) and met up with Malcolm S and Scoff. We talked about UK cave diving and Scoff showed us some fascinating kit. Those CDG guys are really resourcefull! After chatting for a while we all got kitted up (me in my backmount rig, Malcolm and Scoff in sidemount gear), went for a little dive and then swapped gear around. I tried a dragon harness with twin 10's and Malcolm donned my backmount rig. I found the sidemount rig very comfortable in the water, but as I was rather unfamiliar with it, I think I struggled a bit. Scoff is a really interesting bloke to talk to. I learmt a great deal about UK cave diving and even learned of some "backmountable" caves which I hope to try out over the winter. Thanks to Scoff for spending the day with us up there. It was really interesting. Bob

| Imported post Yeah, good to put faces to names. Shame some of the others didn't make it. I think the YD Board being down probably left most folk unsure as to what was happening. The weather forecast was crap too! Maybe have another session sometime in the new year. Anyway I think me and Malcolm & Bob had a good day. Sorry if I babbled a lot, guys. And I hope I didn't come over as too much of a nutter! It will be interesting to see if anyone took pix of the 'sidemount strokes' at play. Cheers Scoff (CDG - Northern Section QD)

Imported post Ok, glaekit question time. Do you put the tins on in or out of the water? It "looks" as if it would be bloody awkward walking "anywhere" with them banging off your legs. Peter

Imported post Hi Peter, put them on out of the water, they may look ungainly, but they are amazingly comfortable both out of, and in the water. I had 10s on and was hardly aware of them walking to the water. Scoff and Bob, many apologies for what may have been horrible wine fumes from the night before----and the more than usually glazed expression, it was a hell of a good night though If Scoff does do another session for YDers, it's well worth going even if you don't intend doing cave diving at present, you will learn a h*ll of a lot from an angle of diving most of us are unfamiliar with. I've come away thoroughly convinced this sidemount harness system is the way to go for low stuff, it just felt so comfortable. Good to meet you Bob, and huge thanks to Scoff for a great day. Here's praying for a dry spell in Yorkshire!! Cheers, Malcolm.
