HMS Hermes WW1 Cruiser Dive - Dover Tue 27 Feb

Tuesday 27 Feb the WW1 British Cruiser, converted to Seaplane carrier HMS Hermes, this dive has filled up rather quickly before i had time to post it.

Meet at Dover Marina 0930 to depart across the Channel on Neptune for an 1130 dive time on the French side. The wreck is quite proud in 32m so we should be able to make the very best use at this depth of the good Neap tides we have that day This is a single dive day and due to the long run across the channel will cost an extra £5 for fuel so £30 each.

A bit more about the wreck:-

The cruiser Hermes, Capt. C. R. Lambe, had seen nearly 14 years
service at the outbreak of the First World War, by which time she
had been converted into a seaplane carrier. The ship was one of the
early victims of submarine warfare. On October 30th, 1914, she
arrived at Dunkirk bringing seaplanes from Portsmouth. The
presence of German submarines in the Straits of Dover had been
reported on the 29th, and the greatest vigilance was maintained.
She cleared Dunkirk for Dover on the early morning of the 31st
and, when some eight miles W.N.W. of Calais, was attacked by a
submarine, which hit her with two torpedoes.
Despite her injuries Hermes remained afloat for nearly two hours.
Of her complement over 400, including Capt. Lambe, were taken
off by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway Co's steamship
Invicta, and two destroyers. The drowned numbered about 44.

Shameless bump

Hi All,

if anyone is thinking of dropping off this one Sad Jack has asked if you could do so quickly as he has to rearrange his schedule

Personally I don't see what the problem is as he only drinks tea all day but mine is not to reason why

Safe diving,
Steve

Steve.

It's becoming increasingly harder for me to take two days off next week, so Sad Jack can have my place.
