| EXPEDITION ORGANISER: Hazel Buckley. 07979-692-035, hazel.buckley@ntlworld.com SCAPA FLOW & OUTSIDE THE FLOW 2007 - 27 July- 4 August 2007 Please note – this is NOT a for profit trip – I am a member of a very small BS-AC club and want to go to Scapa, so I am asking lots of other divers. All diving agencies divers welcome as long as suitably qualified/ experienced. There are some places taken already, first come first served on what’s left. There are now 5 places filled and interest from 3 more people, so get a move on if you are interested! I hope to see some old friends and meet new ones. Please contact me for more info or if you are interested. Look forward to hearing from you TRIP DETAILS 27 July- 4 August 2007 on the boat – allow a day either side for travel DEPOSIT I need deposits from everyone very soon to secure the boat!! 1st come 1st served. Deposits non-refundable (unless trip is cancelled due to weather etc). £240 end of January 2007, £100 by the 3rd week of June 2007. COST £340 each (possibility of £10 fuel surcharge per person if prices do not settle). The cost includes boat travel/ fuel; all air fills (Nitrox charged at 1p per litre and trimix 2p per litre extra, double filtered); 6 nights accommodation; 6 days diving; use of thread-through lead; use of a 15 litre cylinder (no ponies available); breakfast and lunch. Dinner ashore each night at your own cost in local eateries. Or you could cook yourself aboard the boat if you want to buy your supplies locally. Twin 12 litre sets available for hire £30 per week, manifolded, bands provided. Bring your own backplates, harnesses etc. Limited numbers so please let me know if you intend to hire one. OTHER COSTS Travel – depending on divers going and their current location I may be organising a van to take the majority of the kit… Won’t know travel details nearer the time. You can always organise your own travel if you would prefer – ask and I will forward you some useful links. Driving/ ferry is one option. Flying is another (obviously with current restrictions this would be tricky). I estimate travel, dinner and beer costs to make the trip in total around £500-600 (although knowing some divers the cost in beer alone could be more!). ACCOMMODATION Liveaboard The Boat: MV Karin Length 24m ~ Width 6.4m ~ Draught 3m New – lift for 2007 Accommodation & Facilities There are 7 twin cabins, all with full size mattresses, hot showers, 2 toilets, a drying room, two compressors; a galley and day room and 240 volts at any time supplied from 2 generators. Sleeping arrangements to be organised by trip organiser – if you would like to share a room with someone in particular please let me know. Food Breakfast and lunch provided, times to suit the diving. Evening meals to be purchases on shore each night. If you have any special dietary requirements please let me know. Nitrox/ Trimix Nitrox and Trimix are available on board in custom mixes as required for those suitably qualified and equipped. This is an optional extra and is not included in the charter fee. Please let me know if you intend to you Nitrox or Trimix, as I will need to notify the skipper in good time. The Skipper John Thornton John is an IANTD Trimix & Nitrox Instructor on both OC and CCR, he also holds a HSE Commercial Diving Ticket and a DTI Approved Skippers Ticket. With over twenty five years experience both skippering and diving, John is the most experienced and highly qualified skippers working in Scapa Flow. He was one of the first skippers to offer dive charters in the area and has progressively moved on to larger, better equipped boats. John took part in Project Britannic in Greece in November 97 and has lead several expeditions since including HMS Repulse and Prince of Wales and recently to Java Sea to dive the lost cruisers of the battle of the Java sea of 1942 The Diving A mixture of the best wrecks of Scapa Flow and outside the Flow (including scenic drifts and wrecks where visibility is outstanding). You need to be a minimum of very experience Sports Diver or equivalent for this trip. Please contact Hazel if you are not sure but would like to discuss it. Diving itself to be scheduled nearer the time and is subject to weather restrictions. This is not a techie trip, but some of us are hoping to do 1 trimix dive - this will not reduce dives available to sports divers. Last edited by Hazel : 27-02-07 at 05:26 PM.
