| 6 Spaces Eastbourne 23/8/8 -30/8/8 I'm helping to organise a "pick your own wrecks trip" Eastbourne next summer (2008).
The dates would be from the 23rd to the 30th of August 2008
(including the 25th which is a bank holiday). For those of us who work, we'd only take four days annual leave, and we get most of the final Sunday off to go home.
We would be doing 8 days worth of diving off a good quality hardboat with
lift.
Airfills are available on the boat (Nitrox available) and we could leave kit on the boat overnight.
We would be doing two wreck dives on at least two of the days and then wreck
and reef / drift dives for the remaining days.
Because of the situation (there are hundreds of wrecks out of Eastbourne) we
could sit down with the skipper and pick-our-own wrecks!
Just to whet your appetites, we could be diving, the Alaunia, Oceana,
Argonaut, Branksome Chine, Lulworth, Arlstone, Harrow, Marecia and the
Radleystone along with shallower reefs and attractions in the afternoon,
including the Beachy head gullies, the Sovereign light tower and the scallop
beds. The list goes on. For more details of the wrecks, look in ‘Dive
Sussex’.
This would be a Sports Diver trip unless everyone on the trip was Dive Leader by then, but because we have the boat at our disposal, we could start shallowish and work our way up (or down) to the deeper wrecks towards the end of the week, allowing a nice, progressive scheme of diving. Deeper wrecks such as the Twins, the Lisbon, The Waterland and assorted others into the plan. That would be a bonus, but don’t be put off if you are a Sports Diver: you’ll still be more
than welcome, and there’s plenty out there to see.
Right. We need to get six more people on this boat.
This trip will be open for a while, but in the meantime, not much will be
happening. Assuming a suitable take up, I’ll be asking for deposits in
August / September time to confirm spaces on the trip!
PM me back if you are interested or if you have any questions.
Just to get you excited, here’s the scene:
You’ve just come up from a dive on the Alaunia. You swam to the bows, where
you saw the liner’s enormous anchor sitting in mid water. There was a huge
conger under the bow plating. You’ll be dining on lobster tonight because
you bagged one that was sheltering under the boiler. You’ll mount that porthole
when you get home.
Someone tells a hilarious joke * something to do about sweet hamster paste
and gardening * and as you eventually stop laughing you think back to the
10M vis, your relaxing safety stop and your rock hard SMB.
You were winched onto the deck by the lift, so you’re feeling relatively
fresh. You’ll be diving again in an hour or so for you hors d'oeuvres
(scallops) but for the meantime you can just enjoy the sun beating down and
the light sea swell.
Who wouldn’t want to come on a diving trip like that!
Oh yes that'll be the cost ... The cost is £350 going down to c.£300 (I think)? per person for the eight days diving. But obviously with air & transport etc it'll actually cost you more than that to come. (The fuller the boat the lower the cost....)
