Last time I was in Scapa (2005 mind you) it was something like 28.50 return for a foot pax on the Northlink ferry. Parking in the harbourside car park was an astonishing 35 quid for the week

It takes five hours to drive up there from Muirhead/Gartcosh. I normally aim to be up there by 10.00 to give me time for a cheapo brekkie and slabbing up in tescos in Thurso.
erm that means leaving about 5am ish, would it not be better to go up day before B & B and couple of pints?

I think a bit delegating is now in order as there are 3 of us.

Im driving us

Stevie and Fred sort out ferries etc............................................... ....

Nah, I've done 9 trips to Scapa and never B&Bed on the way up, from central Scotland it's a waste of time and money (although not as bad as travelling from central Scotland via the Aberdeen/Kirkwall route, I mean WTF?)

By the time I fought my way out of Glasgow via Mr Happy's Diving Gas Emporium last Friday up to Kyle for the CA PN gig I was on the road for something like 5 and half hours - nae bother.

There's a ferry at 13.15 on the Saturday (peak summertime sailing), you could leave at 07.00 and still get there in plenty of time. 5 hours is the steady 60mph speed limit time up the A9, not that I'm suggesting that anyone should exceed the speed limit (especially as all my points have been 'earned' on the A9 )

There is a bar on the ferry for a traditional liquid brekkie.

Dive Scapa Flow by Rod MacDonald is the best for inside the flow but I don't know of any books that cover the wrecks of the northern isles, maybe one of Gordon Ridley's Dive North Scotlands?
