Hey it's Orkney - the weather wakes up, decides what it's going to be like and then changes its mind. All without telling the forecasters!

On a different note - I'm dropping in a Niknaks tomorrow on the way up so if anyone wants anything picking up let me know by PM or phone (if you have my number). Latest requests by 10:00 tomorrow morning.

Didn't know about the photo id and rang North Sea Ferries this morning and to be sure they need such stuff.

When I booked the crossing earlier this year no-one mention it and no-one has notified me since so ta again. Have notified Ian and Kevin.

No probs Lyv, and it isn't obvious on their site that we need ID now.

About carparking - When I rang the harbour master/authority (back in January), they said it was ok just to turn up, no need to pre-book. I have not rang them again, but does anyone know for sure if this is still the case (turn up and park)? Otherwise I will ring them in the morning!

As for pub in Thurso, I don't know yet which pub? Bruce mentioned 'a good Chinese', so guess we'll be eating there. I've never been further north than St. Abbs, so it's all new to me!

I've never pre-booked on any of my previous trips, just park*, pay the bloke in the hut, put the ticket in the windscreen and you're off.

Last time I was there (2005) it was 35 quid to park for the week.

*after you've dropped the kit off for loading into a container.

Well im kinda packed just a few problems
1: The Ironing shop couldnt get my ironing back in time.
2: Do they have televisions that far north, as we are mid euro 2008 and Holland are playing Saturday evening.
3: There is a lack of fuel not petrol but the other less refined stuff starting with a D that i cant spell, and obviously being organised ive less than 1/4 of a tank.

Thanks, I got told less than that, but £35 still reasonable. I hope they take credit card for payment, and wonder if Hazel takes plastic for gas bills, etc? I just don't feel comfortable carrying a huge amount of cash!

I'm sure that there is a bookies or pub with wide screen that we can leave you in on Saturday evening!

I'm more bothered about being able to use plastic to pay for stuff, rather than drawing out huge amounts of cash, bank thinks 'ayeup' and freezes my account! If you are at all worried about lack of deisel (not jeans!), then go make friends with your nearest chippy!
