Scapa 2009 - The Irish Invasion

23-28th August 2009 on MV-Valkyre skippered by Hazel W and crewed by Helen F H.

This will be full board, so forget your diet for a week Apparently a diver burns a tremendous number of calories when diving twice a day in Scapa, but Helen is very capable of supplying everyone with many more calories than is burnt

The Valkyrie experience is great, when I went this year I felt spoilt and wondered how I could go back to 'normal' diving again Thanks Ladies.

You don't need to be Irish to join this trip, but you need to at least pretend for a week.

Booking
- The price of the boat will be split amonst the divers so I don't end up horribly out of pocket.
- You book, you pay (We will have a subs list, so getting a replacement shouldn't be too difficult)
- Booking is accepted when a deposit is received

Costs
- The cost of bunks and diving is £3050 for the boat (Hazel says that prices may change slightly as we get closer) So, £3050 split 12 ways = £255 each or split 10 ways = £305 each etc. The boat will take 12 divers, and that is what we are aiming for.
- I will need £70 of each diver as a deposit when you put your name down
(I will be paying for the boat myself, so please don't mess about with payments... please )
- Full Board is an extra £70 per diver for the week (Paid at the end of the week to Hazel)
- Air is included, but Nitrox and Trimix is extra at reasonable prices (Paid at the end of the week to Hazel)

Travel
- The closer we get the the time, we can see if we can share transport cost getting to Stromness.
- We will need to pay for two ferry journeys. One from Ireland to the mainland, and the oher from Scrabster to Stromness, but we can arrange those closer to the time as well.

On the trip
- No fighting, otherwise Hazel will deal with you
- No crowbars, hammers, axes, air cutters, thermal lances or anything else to take spidge, it's not allowed over there.
- We will be diving in the flow, so lots of German wreckage and guns. And we will also be diving the James Barrie.
- Deep Dive, then shallow Dive is the normal format. The deepest of the deep ones is about 45m to the sea bed, but that is on the big battleships, so you don't actually need to do that depth if you don't want to, but are still able dive the battleships.

The line up:

1. ardhill
2. RogerViking
3. Al Kennedy
4. Balbrigganbloke
5. PeterM
6. Liamm
7. Buchhawk
8. Buchhawk
9. Neil McLeod
10.Mick F
11.Midnight
12.Leg of Salmon

Subs Bench

1. Meldives
2. Ron Snyder
3. Pug
4.

I will contact the folks on this list in a few days with details of where to send your deposit - Thanks

(I know a few of the people on this list haven't totally confirmed their position, so if you wish to pull out, that's fine)

I should point out, y'all being Irish and all that those are the diving days (23-38th). We will arrive in Scapa on the day before - Saturday 22nd (boat leaves scrabster in Scotland about 12 noon). Then we leave Scapa on the Saturday morning boat the day after the week's diving.

Assuming you want to do the straight run to Scapa without staying over, you need to leave Ireland on the Friday night. Then will arrive back to Ireland on the Saturday night a week later.

Just so you know for booking time off work.

Of course you could just do your own thing getting there and back, which is up to you. But the dive boat brief (warnings and threats from Hazel ) are done on the Saturday when we arrive, then we motor off into the deep blue seas of the flow Sunday morning

Welcome aboard

I really hate it when you organise some diving and can't get people to go

Yeh, yeh, I'm Irish too

I'm not doing too well with dates on this. I PMed Hazel an asked about dates for 1009, then confirmed I wanted to book 23-28th September (it should have been August).

Will someone please remind me when we are near time, so I know when to pack please
