It really does sort out who is serious.

If someone then cannot make it for any reason, it's their responsibility to find a replacement.

We took deposits in Nov and then full payment by the end of Jan '07 for some people
Once payment was sorted if you pulled out you found a replacement & got your money from them!
We were able to fill some spaces with locals at short notice, so some people did get their money refunded, but it wasn't everyone.
We had 4 days x 12 people payment by the time the trip came round.

Our view was that Dave was going out over Easter and he deserved to get paid full wack for the boat, we also gave him the cash first thing on Good Friday (so I wouldn't forget by Easter Monday) It was a hassle to collect & chase the cash, but worth it as it sorted the wheat from the chaff......
