HI boys and girls - coupla questions as its been 3 years since I was last in sharm.

Hopefully booking it this weekend, just waiting for some moeny to be transferred into my account.

How much is the visa these days, do I still get it from the airport and whats the best currency - cant remember what I took last time. Any other up-to-date bits of info would be useful too.

Cheers all

It will probably be £15 or 15 euros or 15 dollars. They make it up as they go along. Any old money will do. They still like dollars and euros.

I was there a few months back.

£12 visa and take english and get it changed to egyptain out there.
Used the automatic transfer ATM next to pasha night club outside the bank. It gives the best ratews even better than the hotels. Saying that my hotel were bloody exspensive this time. £100 = 1,000le but the auto thing outside pasha £100 = 1,130le

Oh if you're in Naama bay and find dananeer steak house. Look round the corner that it's on and try Vino's. Soooooooooo much better and cheper and I thought you'd never beat Dananeer. Thank you the Welsh man Mr Adam who now lives in Sharm

Thumbs up Sharm

Just back 3 days ago - have been there many times.

When you come through to where all the reps are after leaving the plane and getting dropped off the bus - ignore the reps and head left to the1st or 2nd kiosk.

If there are 2 of you say salaam and give him £20 - you will then get change.
If you pay $ then it is $15 (about £9.50 each)

If you give £10 you should get 20 Egyptian Pounds change per person.

If you use the travel rep you'll pay more sometimes.
The new visas are actually marked $15 and are self adhesive.

If you have any other questions just let me know.
Have a great holiday & safe diving.

Always paid for our VISAs in advance via the tour operator, saves queueing to get them at the airport - £10 if I remember correctly

HI,
Just got back myself, £10 for visa. I take GBP they love any thing
apart from Egyptian pounds. Its very drity money so I always have
wipes to use when I have handled it. At the cheque in just remember
to use your manners & you should be OK, take the p--- & you will get
hasselled & could cost you to get through. Last year I saw two divers
takin the Piss at the screening cameras (they had two unpack all their kit)
Then to get charged at check in & then had all their hand luggage checked.
They just radio up to checkin.

Andy

Never had any problems at check-in in Sharm, or been charged for excess baggage. That said out tour guides have always been "hanging round" whilst we check in, so perhaps their presence helps (??).

Good manners cost nothing and as Andy says I can't say I blame people if they radio to their colleagues to give you a hard time (I refuse to believe the same doesn't happen in other countries, including the UK) should you be rude or unpleasant to them.

new stamp

Its worth checking you have a clean page for the visa stamp. The new one is quite a bit bigger than the old pair of small stamps.
With the exchange rate, its worth taking a few dollars, the $15 visa worked out at about 7.50 in November.

Have fun
