I was wondering, for those people driving from the east ....

you come down the M5 then you have a choice:
  • A30 north round dartmoor
  • A38 south round dartmoor

I've just tested my sat nav and it sends me north on the A30

does anyone have any thoughts as to:
  • shortest route
  • quickest route
  • more of a dual carriageway route

Thanks

V

A30, though personally I avoid the m5 on the way down and stick to the A303/A30 until the last couple of junctions. It tends to be quicker on a Friday though slower on the way back on Sunday. It's also a much shorter distance.

Yup, thats what I used to do from Bracknell - down to J7 on the M3, hop over past Stonehenge, down to Exeter then the A30 until the roundabout with the wind turbines off to the left, through Falmouth, Helston, then past Goonhillie

Stonehenge can be bad, as can the couple of other places where the A303 goes to single lane, but it's quite a lot less miles than the motorway and there are plenty of bottlenecks around Bristol.

I didn't used to go thru the Black Hills, but the road from the A303 to the M5 has got slow slow the last couple of years, it's normally quicker unless you get more than your fair share of tractors and sheds.

There are major roadworks on the A38 at Dobwalls in Cornwall which slowed us down when we were there yesterday. I guess it depends on time of day etc but the A30 was faster.

Through Falmouth?

If you go straight over Treluswell Roundabout you will come to the roundabout for the A394 (Right) which will take you to Helston.

Can't see why you would go through Falmouth on the way to Helston.

To pick up some vital supplies? The oggy oggy pasty shop and the great chavo-market of Trago mills are right next to eachother!

Haha!

I got threatened with being banned from Trago's last week.
I called the security guard at the entrance a right monkey and he got all shitty.
I went in there to get a tub of polyfiller and ended up downing a couple in the Chainlocker because of the stress and anxiety the Trago experience caused me.

Just watching Country File and apparently the weather for the week ahead is getting better - don't know if it is going to last until the weekend, but those down this week could be in for some
