Coastguard spotter aircraft trip.

8 Feb.

Having got a full compliment of watch keepers back on our watch after nearly 4 months, I rang our duty pilot of the spotter pane at Manston, to see if it was ok with him to take my watch boss and I for a fly round the coast .

Pre flight checks.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/LPIC0229.jpg

Flying past my home town looking at Deal castle from 150 feet .

Wood from the ICE PRINCE in piles around Fairlight .

Low level flights , identifying fishing vessels around the Eastbourne area. Viz was crap 20 miles out.

We turn around at Beachy head lighthouse ….. and my time to fly the aircraft , chasing trawlers for indent’s to see how the pilots do it .

Flying the aircraft is very easy , touch on the controls and very very acrobatic. I found it very worrying when we had to drop from 200 ft , once the trawler was located ( position given from work over the radio ) ….. then fly at wave top level , creeping up on the poor skipper , then reading back to the station …. Name , port ,, position ,course , speed .

A excellent day out …………

I. I'm only interested in boats that have sunk.
2. I could never remeber f*ck all about them after a dive.
3. HTH do you expect me to remember anything about boats on the surface?

Could this have anything to do with your tendency to swim in the opposite direction to where the wrecks actually were ??

So the trawler skipper could save diesel by motoring downhill.
