Scapa flights

A few of us are off to scapa in august and im in charge of the booking etc
Ive just looked at the flights into kirkwall from ireland as opposed to driving all the way
Is kirkwall far from stromness? The flights work out around 250 euros which isnt bad if you take into account all the hassle with driving ,ferries costs of petrol etc.
Thanks

Kirkwall is about 25 minutes from Stromness. If you let me know closer to the time i can organise a taxi for you. If there are a few of you the local firm has a people carrier and a trailer for bags etc

Airport run

Try Brass's taxis: 01856 850750

....they have a MPV type thing and trailer for smaller groups or will put you in touch with the guy who runs a 16 seater minibus. Either way it's about 50quid so not deadly if shared.

They will drop you at the boat if requested.

HTH

What baggage allowance do you have? Surely not enough for a weeks cold water diving?

Yeah only fly if you're happy not to have your luggage for the first 3 days.... the baggage handlers apparently keep forgetting to put luggage to the orkneys on the connecting flight. According to the airport staff it's a very regular occurance.

In our group of 10, 2 people lost their luggage for almost half their holiday... the rest of us drove up.

Going via Inverness is ok, it's a small eough airport they tend not to lose things.
There was a problem with the n isles flights and Edinburgh last summer, Aberdeen sometimes miss the onward flight due to short connection times, but it almost always appears on the next flight - I've now moved south again, so don't have the delights of hours at Abz airport anymore

ANy baggage going thru the main hubs seemed to get lost: BA subcontracted their baggage handling and the result was a nightmare. A group of russians never had their bags all week.

Any routes that avoid the main airports are very good, as Fiona says.
