There is free parking at the Mill Dam in South Shields next to the pontoon where you get the boat from. Take the road off the roundabout down to the Mill Dam. At the bottom is the Customs House. Turn right and the quay is straight ahead of you.

If you search for 'Mill Dam South Shields' on Google Maps it is the road called Harton Quay (not Mill Dam itself) you want to take from the roundabout.
