Sound of Mull Diving 3rd - 10th May

Hi all,

I am relatively new to the forums, but I just thought I would post up a trip that I have organised but not managed to completely fill yet. I realise it is a little late, but I thought that I would see if I have any takers.

The trip covers the first bank holiday weekend in May and we will be travelling up to Tobermory on the 3rd of May returning on the 10th.

The cost for 6 days diving (2 dives a day) and accommodation is £290

Not included is transport, air fills and food.

The skipper is Charlie Laverty with his boat the MV Amidas. I cannot seem to find his website though

The accommodation is Bad Daraich House (http://www.bad-daraich.mull.com/)

As far as I am aware there is only one place in Tobermory for airfills and it is about £3 a fill for a standard 12L

Some of the wrecks in the area include:

SS Hispania - Decks are at approx 25m
Rondo - Stern is at about 4m and bow is at about 50m
SS Shuna - Decks are about 30m

There are a couple of wrecks a little further away like the Thesis and the Aurania

Plenty of scenic dives to be done too

Shame it itsnt 2 weeks later during half term and i would have jumped at it!.....one of my favourite places to dive. You couldnt change the date could you?

Thats a good price for so many days.

I don't know the boat though, is it local to the sound or a visitor for the trip?
Local knowledge is paramount in this area, especially if you want to hit the hispania on slack. Its also a bit shallower than you suggest, you hit the decks at about 17m. Best dive in the area.

BTW you can stop of at lochaline for air fills between dives, Mark at the dive centre there is very helpful.

Thanks for you message. I think it is quite a good price too, hopefully we can fill the last few places

We dived with Charlie Laverty last year and I have to say he was very good and very accommodating I remember last year he managed to put us on the Hispania pretty much bang on the money (and about 20 mins after another group who found it a little rough ) and we had an awesome dive. I think perhaps you are right about the depth to the deck too .... memory gets a little foggy some times.

Anyway, the reason that you might not have heard much about Charlie is that he is based out of Tobermory and so he is on Mull rather than on the mainland. He has been there most of his life (from what I remember) and used to be a scollop diver, so knows the waters pretty well only thing I would say about his boat though is that it is adequately sized, but not the largest of vessels, which is why I have limited it to 10 divers rather than the 12 that the boat (and accommodation) can take. Slight more cost per diver, but it is less cramped and hence safer
