| Le Dud Plongee 08 l just thought l'd let the YD massive know about a little gigette l've organised and the muppets that somehow l got lumbered with. The plan - Depart from Brighton on Monday the 28th of April on Steve Johnsons boat Channel Diver Channel Diving | Boats and dive either the Warilda.... Warilda ![]() Depth : 40 - 50m Built in 1912 by William Beardmore of Glasgow for the Adelaide Steamship Company, the 7,713 ton, 415ft Warilda was originally intended for the East-West Australian coastal service. Following the outbreak of war in Europe she was requisitioned by the Admiralty and used firstly as a troop ship in 1915 and then as a hospital ship in 1916. On the 3 August 1918 , while transporting 700 wounded soldiers from Le Havre to Southampton , she was torpedoed by the German submarine UC 49. A total of 123 lives were lost making this wreck an official war grave. Today the Warilda lies in 50 metres, standing 8-10 metres proud with a 45 degree list to port. She is still fairly intact but the presence of a large trawler net means that extra care needs to be taken on this wreck. Sitting some 36 nautical miles offshore, visibility is usually excellent. “A stunning wreck, steeped in history."Or the Lanfranc..... Lanfranc ![]() Depth : 42 - 55m She was built by the Caledon Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Dundee and was launched on 18th October 1906 as the 'Lanfranc' at the cost of £122,000, being 418.5 x 52.3 x 27.2 ft and a gross weight of 6287 tonne. Her propulsion was driven by a twin screw, triple expansion steam engine of 850 nhp.She set off on her maiden voyage on 18th February 1907, however like many of her sisters her commercial trading life was foreshortened by the outbreak of WWI. She was commissioned on 6th October 1915 as hospital ship HMS Lanfranc and was capable of carrying 403 wounded from the battlefields of Northern France back to England. On the 17th April 1917 at 19:30 hrs while bound for Southampton she was torpedoed by the German Submarine UB-40 (also responsible for the sinking of the Salsette and the Tycho), some 4 miles northeast of Le Havre. At the time she had 387 patients of which 167 were German POWS. Of these 326 were cot patients. Some 570 survivors were picked up by the destroyers HMS Badger and HMS Jackal aided by HMS P 47 and the French patrol boat Roitelet, and taken to Portsmouth. However 17 British and 17 German patients were lost. She now lies in 55 metres with the upper levels at 42 metres. She is completely open and brass portholes and crockery are to be found everywhere. Then stay overnight in Fecamp, Frogsville. Day two we will be diving a couple of wrecks on the froggie side. Day three we will dive the liner above that we didn't dive on the way over. l last did this on Dave Burkes gig in 05 and have tried in 06 and 07, both times in was canned because of the weather. In 05 we had 12-15 mtrs of vis so this year l expect it'll be carp. The people on this gig are. Well 'ard rebreather divers 1. Just me Rebreather Muppets. 2. Chasey 3. Dave Burke 4. Adrian 'CCR_Asda' 5. Asda's mate Northern monkey muppets/ token Northerner 6. Andy Clarkson Inverted muppets 7. Steve S Token girlie 8. Dianne 'Madcow' DIR muppets 9. Howard Payne 'Junior' 10. Gareth 'Gloc' Remaining OC muppets 11. Ghandi 12. Nigel Ingram So as you see, we have a very mixed group and would expect some lively 'debate' with the two mods (how the feck did l let this happen The boat is a large Cat, which has plenty of room for the DIR bods multitude of cylinders EDIT Some sneaky MOD has removed the E from Dude.
