There's an assumption

it isn't a layer of icing that thick all the way through. It is very thin in the centre. Just thicker at the edges to make the top sit straight because it rose like...well...upwards rather a lot.

I did think you were being rather generous with the icing - wish my mum had put layers of icing that thick in her cakes

And it overlapped the edges. But I do like icing you can leave teeth marks in.

The problem now is that Master Scubee wants me to make cake every week, whereas at the moment, i make it about once a year
