| It is perfectly reasonable to expect someone who doesn't show up for a dive to honour their financial commitment, particularly where no advance deposit is asked for by the skipper, and the organiser is responsible for sorting out the payment. If I were in your shoes, I would PM the diver, give him/her deatils of how to pay up. If there is no response in a day or two, I would see if they had been online in the meantime, drop them a reminder, give them a deadline, and remind them that they have to pay, and if they don't, that you will post a thread publically. If they don't pay by the deadline, post it publically. It may not get you your £40, but it might save the same thing happening to others, and longer term, if people know they will be 'named and shamed' money will be forthcoming quicker.,,, in theory But it does depend on whether they were a definite booking, or a maybe. That's my 2p.

| MJH - I know your side is resolved, but interesting moral discussion nonetheless. I still feel really bad about dropping out of a York BSAC club trip last year which was to Mull in October. I had every intention of going up to the point where I came back from america in July and got told my house was sold, and the completion date was the week of the move, and that was the week I was due to be on the trip. I gave the trip organiser plenty of notice, but I had no choice and had to cancel my space - I am 100% sure the space was filled, but I still felt shite for doing it.

| Haven't read the rules recently, but as many of the trips/dives are organised weeks or sometimes months in advance, surely it should be a case of pay up in advance, so many [agreed time frame] beforehand? Okay, if the dive gets canned for whatever reason, monies can be returned or put towards the rescheduled venture? I understand this could be deemed by some that if you don't come you don't have to pay, but it would be made clear at the time of putting your name down that you pay regardless of showing up or not. Or am I missing something obvious? Pete

| Or even as Adrian Kelland has been doing, half now half a month before the trip for those trips done in advance. Anything less than 4 weeks away should be all now unless close mates etc. Saying that I have a trip running this week and I paid the entire deposit......... lets see how that works out |
