| theres no reason why you should lose money because of other people MJH, whether they are popular YD members or not I received a load of grief over my fairly recent outing of three YD'rs who owed me money but were "out of contact" but as I organise quite a bit of boat of diving, some people take the pi** and spoil it for the rest as it is, I wont be organising any diving in 2009 and relying on others instead I'd say contact them three times (ideally in various ways), over the course of more thana week, if no contact despite being online (ie not away on holiday) then..................

| Totally agree that you should not lose out. Nor can I believe that any UK diver does not know that if you say yes then you are committed to payment (regardless) unless you find a replacement. The only thing to be certain of, before 'naming and shaming', is that your messages have been received.

| Organising dives can be a pain, I don't do too much of it but am fortunate enough to hang about with a bunch who do. What I do make sure is that if I say I'm turning up, I turn up and if I can't, I let the organiser know asap and do it myself. Sorry to hear that you are having problems. Last time this was discussed there were loads of "good" excuses why billy-no-show was incommunicado

| I am a new member so not seen much of this but I have seen the rules about paying if you sign up to trips and would have thought 7 working days then post a thread with names asking them to contact you to sort out the payment, if they have a valid reason for not paying then they won't mind if you put it across correctly. If they don't have a valid reason then they might be annoyed but people booking future trips need to know about it. It might be an idea to lock the thread when you open it though so people can't post the usual load of piss taking and personal views that they inevitably have about people and cause more problems. Asking a mod to remove or amend the post if a successful resolution is found would be even better. I have not done diving trips but have organised trips to concerts and events for other groups/forums and found this to work very well just try not to make it personal or start up a vendetta against someone. |

| I agree with most of the above, and I don't know the person concerned, BUT I would add that IF the reason for the no show would also take them out of communication for a while then please be reasonable. For example my work can occassionally demand that I cancel holiday and send me pretty much anywhere - I've also known people to suffer unscheduled family berevement. I guess I would contact the intermediary messenger and request more detail? If the reasonable approach fails, then after three attempts (prefferably by different means as their PC might have croaked) then name them. If shameful behaviour results in shame, then people should stop behaving shamfully. Regards, Paul PS It wasn't me was it? |
