Who drives, A stick Shift, Automatic, or doesnt drive

Due to the recent effort of foriegn drivers causing accidents over here because they are not capable of driving manual gearboxes ( Stick shifts)..
Or they are used to driving on the Left hand side of the road and my own personal experience with Londerners ( Not learning to drive because of the awesome transport system ), or Americans who seem to be Automatic gearbox orientated plus driving on the wrong side of the road.
I am curious to see who drives and how they drive and on what side of the road
Steve

There's an option missing for 'any transmission on either side of the road' - I've driven LHD and RHD cars and vans in the UK and abroad over the last 18 years or so.

The chavs that drive past my house in their crappy souped up novas seem to view driving on the correct side of the road purely as a guideline rather than a requirement.

I voted: Can drive any vehicle on the right side of the road

And am assuming that by "Right" you actually mean "Correct" - have driven both autos and manuals in left and right hand drive on both sides of the road!

Currently I'm driving an auto if it's my car, cos it's a nice lazy mile-eater and allows me to chat on the phone and eat and do all sorts with the cruise control on , or a manual if it's the rental I use for work.

OK now listen here. This board is ingerlish OK? Stick shift... !!!! "manual" please.

It is you wot is on the wrong side (OK I am too here in Italy).

If you need a solution there are 2.

1. Don't let the yanks drive (they can't) {better still don't let them in at all}.

2. Drive so badly all foriegners are better drivers (as we do here).

Chris.
(PS I voted motorbike, but its not quite correct as its a road bike, but it goes down the little middle lane marked in white)

Normally it's "I'm a motorcyclist, Who needs roads" but I also qualify for "Can drive any vehicle on the right side of the road", manual, auto, pre-select gears, wheeled or tracked. Did a stint driving tracked vehicles for a while (Scorpion Tank) and with one of those puppies there is no side of the road, indeed quite often there is no road.

I ticked lots of boxes as I have driven both manual and automatic on both sides of the road depending on where I am.

I am now driving a column change auto on the right but learnt to drive a manual on the left.

Column changes are great as you get so much more room between the driver and the passenger for your drink holders etc.

Talking Anything anywhere

The first time I went to Gozo the instructions with the hire car were "most people drive on the left". Before you ask, the english drove on the left, the germans drove on the right, and the locals drove in the middle.....Fun! Trucks had one way arrows to indicate the side you should pass (moving roundabouts).

Crete was also fun; some towns were wealthy and put out loads of roadsigns such as hairpin bend for a bend of a couple of degrees, others were poor and you got sort of mini-memorials where people had been killed......so a three memorial bend was exciting.

Can't vote as you've missed the classic Martini option...."anytime, anyplace...."

Cheers, Paul

"Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made."

In fact, I'll share with you one of my fav songs of all time:

I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty don't ya know, and I'm still, oh I'm still
Out on the road late at night, I seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice, Dallas Alice

I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Now I driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico, and I'm still
And I've been kicked be the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in and I'm still on my feet and I'm willin', oh I'm willin'

And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and then you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

In fact, its worth a listen.
