I noticed i could hear bats a few years ago. Apparently women and younger men can hear them. Wondered if it was just me!

What the hell are you on about women?

Seriously though, I used to spend a lot of time in Ireland and in the open countryside at night, I often used to hear a regular cacophony of bat-chatter.

Now, I just think I've got bats in mi belfry

serina saw the sea in a book once
not without one of those magic boxes, but they are loud, albeit at a high frequency.
When we hear them with the gadget there is high and low points to their clicks so suppose it may be possible indeed if the sound is low enough and your own ears are sensitive enough.

it could of course be the moths screaming at the last minute that can be heard.. hehe

I can definatley hear them. I can track them from the bloody racket they make! Years ago on a caving trip in Yorkshire we were staying in a bunk house and decided to walk the mile or so to the pub. On the way i could hear loads of bats, but i was the baby of the group so no-one else could (all the rest were older men and women).
Once we got near the village and some street lights i could point to where an individual bat was (which they all laughed at) until the bat in question flew through the patch of light from the street lamp! They all shut up then.

Ever tried 'fishing' for bats?

When there are some nearby, throw a small object (little bit of gravel for example) up into the approximate area (don't throw it AT the bats!). They will often swoop towards it - they think the sonar echo is coming from a moth or something.

Hours of fun... long winter nights etc.

Smile I can hear bats too

I can hear bats and so can my dad, we went on a bat watch years ago and the guide insisted that we shouldn't be able to hear them and that was why they used tracking detectors, it was funny when I could hear them and find them before the devise the guide had could. My dad thinks it's his tinatus (excuse the spelling) that means he can hear and my excuse is... I'm sort of death in my left ear but can hear extreme frequencies, I confused my doctor with my strangeness. Anyway it's not that uncommon to be able to hear the bats high frequency clicking.
