| I have had a couple of anonymous red blobs given to me, both I believe were from the same person. If someone disagrees with something you have said then they should at least have the balls to put their name to it, and perhaps explain what they found so offensive. I just wonder with these anonymous blobbers how they deal with offensive remarks in 'Real Life' situations. Perhaps they get someone else to complain for them. I will probably now get another red blob from the blobbers who like to remain anonymous, but what can you do. I'll still keep smiling |

| I'd like all blobs to come with an auto entry of who has given it...and even better with a comment from said person to say why they have given it. It might avoid some of the red blobs being given in a cowardly fashion...after all if you feel strong enough about why you have given a red blob why not be brave enough to say why... Just my honest opinion though (don't shoot me a red one for it Scubachick

| For me, I'd prefer that anyone handing out RED 'neg-rep' sign their name along with any comment they might wish to make as to why they are leaving same. Anything else is just cowardly. Conversely, and by way of illustration, yesterday I received a red-blob, signed, with a reason behind it and everything. That much of the 'award' I can accept. I can't say that I necessarily agree with why she awarded it to me - in fact, I'm not entirely sure that she properly understands the 'rules' about how or where they are to used: as merely having a different opinion to, or not sharing the same tastes or interests as another person isn't and shouldn't be a reason to hand out neg-rep - picure the scene: Bren: "I prefer red wine to white." [Personal opinion] [Bren's rep file then contains a red blob purely because the person awarding it prefers white!] Bren: I think using the term 'artist', when in conjunction with either Tracy Emin or Damien Hurst, is to lend them a gravitas and importance they simply do not deserve and haven't achieved. [again, personal opinion] [Bren's rep file then contains a red blob purely because the person awarding it likes the 'work' of the two pseuds mentioned; but perhaps lacks the sand to say so - and why? - in the thread at the time] I've had some right set-to's with one or two folks here and none of them have - even in the heat of battle - given me neg-rep as a result: so I was bemused as to why I should receive one on this occasion. To say her award to me was, ahem, a bit rich would be understatement.

| I couldn't give a toss. I won't lose any sleep over a Red blob. It's not real, it's the internet. |

| Why have the system at all? It *can* be used as a method of giving people feedback on what they write. Anonymity *can* serve a valuable function in permitting that. However, the system can be - and widely seems to be - misused (as per Bren's examples) and sometimes seems to degenerate into a popularity contest or petty, vindictive personal point scoring and even on one occasion threats (that's where I'd agree with the 'cowardly' tag). I'd have to agree with Doug. People take it much too seriously. How many posts have we seen about red or green blobs since the system was introduced? How many people have we seen getting upset about it? Does it actually add anything to YD? While the rep system is there I'll use it, but I think it would be beneficial to everyone if the damn thing was just switched off.
