Does the ' TAURUS ' need a diver lift ?

As the last people let me down on the lift that i should have got back in August ,, i was toying with the idea of getting one made by the chap that owns AUTUM DREAM at Weymouth

Ivan from Michelle Mary fully recommends him , and the price is well suited .

I believe this is the same one that is on NAUTICAT @ Brighton.

Come on , fire me the PRO's and CON's

Cheers

I think it all comes down to the type of divers you want on board. If you want to do more technical dives then a lift is pretty much a requirement (or a hyab! ) but if not then there are other ways to improve Taurus.

To be honest Taurus is a pretty good dive boat and I can't really think of all that many ways to improve it. Some more kitting up space would be nice (perhaps a stainless steel tube and deck plate platform over the engine hatch would be an idea), a microwave for the pies would be nice and, of course, some sails

What are you planning then? Setting your priorities for the next visit to the bank manager?

Andy.
l agree with Nick, kitting up benches would be more important than a lift, Oh and of course the microwave is important.

I agree with Nick and Howard (though I'm less fussed about the microwave )
Kitting up benches (I remember you saying you had a plan for some at one point?)
Another idea would be an awning to keep worst of the rain/spray off - something like the one on Nauticat.
I'd put both of those ahead of a lift (though people carting round loads of stages will probably disagree).

Hi Andy
I think the boat is great and easily the best for diving from Dover and nearby. I don't think a lift is a priority although you need to keep an eye on the competition and watch what they do.
New wrecks to explore are always exciting so if you want a new bit of kit I would go for the side mounted sonar or proton AX2000 (I have no idea which would be better).
Even more important would be some decent weather so we can get out and do some diving
I am with the others about a bit more space for kitting up - it works fine if most people are on single tanks but when you have 10 or more twinsets it is more difficult.
Here's hoping for some breaks in the weather so we can get out over the late autumn and winter.
Keep up the good work and thanks for some first class diving this year.

At the moment I'd say no, it's not a necessity, BUT, if another boat was to start up out of Dover, people that had not been on Taurus, might lack the awareness of her (and yours) other qualites and decide solely on 'lift or no lift'.

A kit up bench wold be nice for sure.

How's the compressor now too? I know it was poorly when I was last out with you and quite slow, if it's fixable, I'd do that, if not, perhaps another one?

If there was less pies & doughnuts eaten on board no-one would need the lift so I chose the 'fat & lazy divers' option.

Seriously though I would agree with Howard (although it kills me to do it) that the kitting up benches would make a bigger difference to me than the lift.

That said Len's lift on Autumn Dream is very nice!!

Is a magnotometer going to get you much in the way of new wrecks? The Dover straights are very well monitored and the Admiralty keep the charts up to date for obvious reasons so I don't know if it would get you much in the way of new targets.

How about hull mounted flood lighting so we loose the light at about 20m instead of the normal 15?
